The Birmingham Swing Dancers (BSD) is a Birmingham, Alabama based group involved in swing dance and music.  The BSD emerged in January 2007 as a complete membership/dues paying organization led by a Leadership Council.  This council is made up of dance addicted volunteers who have dedicated themselves to the promotion of swing dance and, on a broader perspective, social dance in the Birmingham Community.

WHAT:    BSD hosts monthly dances (either band or DJ)
WHEN:    Fourth Friday of each month 
WHERE:  Kelly Ingram VFW Post 668 unless otherwise noted
TIME:      8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
COST:     Members $6 DJ dances & $11 Band dances/Non-members $8 CD dances & $13 Band dances
   
DJ DANCES:  The DJ dances feature tunes by the BSD DJs and have a strong mixture of multiple swing styles - West Coast, East Coast, Jitterbug, Shag, Bop, Lindy and ballroom and cajun music. To obtain a list of BSD dances scheduled for this year click on the Events tab of this web site.

BAND DANCES: The Band dances feature music by local and nearby musicians with their favorite mix of swing and other dance music. To see a list of bands scheduled for this year click on the Events tab of this web site.

E-NEWSLETTER: BSD publishes a weekly E-Newsletter with information related to BSD dances and lessons and links to their web site for  information about other dances and lessons. To receive the weekly E-Newsletter at no cost, email imadancing@charter.net and request your email address be added to the distribution list.

DANCE INSTRUCTORS: The BSD dance instructors  Pat Abbott-Cobb and Dan Cobb teach swing and ballroom lessons on Tuesday nights at Wald Park Lodge, Vestavia Hills Civic Center Complex, Vestavia.  For a schedule click on the BSD Lessons tab of this web site. 

MEMBERSHIP DUES: Membership is $20 per year per person and allows BSD to hire quality bands, purchase equipment, rent venues, etc.  Our members allow us to continue promoting dance in Birmingham.  If you would like to become a become a member, contact Gay Blalock at au65gcb@bellsouth.net.
